September 2014
Day 245 - 1st September, 2014
A packed last day before a trip to the airport tomorrow. We started off with some chores on the coast and then headed towards the dog beach. It was a lovely day, some shade and plenty of sunshine. The difference from last time however, was that there was plenty of top grade sun protector on bodies so as not to burn further. The water was the warmest it had been all summer. I spent some time trying to capture water droplets from Nell as she shook water off herself.
After leaving the beach it was to the go-karts. There were four grown up men and a teenager fighting it out on the circuit. The teenager beat the lot of them! Of course I made sure I had a record of it all.
Next stop was to a restaurant by invitation from Lourdes and Antonio to eat on the coast. A great last day topped off with a really enjoyable evening.
My photo for today is one of Nell shaking herself. I chose it as it showed water droplets aplenty falling from her and also because I captured the start of the roll which travels right through her body to her tail.

Day 246 - 2nd September, 2014
A huge struggle to come up with a photo today. The trip to the airport was anything but joyful having to head for Departures rather than Arrivals. Last time Jack and I were there we managed to get some interesting images of perspectives, however today, nothing "spoke" to me.
Back home and casting around for inspiration, I wandered down towards the animal house thinking that I might be able to capture an image of the hens and failing that it might eventually come down to a sunset photo! As I walked down the steps however, I saw one of the big black bees working the Dom Pedro flower heads so stopped to see what I could capture. It seemed to be very busy and I had a job focussing as it flitted from one flower to another. I kept clicking away though in the hope that at least one image would be OK. And so it turned out! I am not only happy to choose an image of the bee as my photo of today, I also love the blue which is highlighted on its wings and body.

Day 247 - 3rd September, 2014
Sleep was in short supply last night, so I took advantage of the wee small hours of darkness to go outside and take photos of the night sky.
It was beautiful and clear and the Milky Way was prominent. I spent some time trying to get a foreground in the image to provide a perspective; not at all easy when the Milky Way is so vast and extending across much of the sky.
Thankfully there weren't too many mosquitos about so I was able to sit and watch as well. There always seems to be some movement apart from stars - satellites, planes and the odd shooting star. The bonus last night too was that holidaymakers further up the hill had gone so there was no light pollution from their pool area.
The photo I have selected for today of the Milky Way shows the mass of stars well, although I haven't really been able to highlight the expanse as specifically as I've seen in some captures. It is better than my first attempt however, so I will continue in the hope that I improve each time.

Day 248 - 4th September, 2014
It's still very warm first thing in the morning, however I wanted to stretch my legs and give Nell a long walk, so I decided to "go with the sweat!"
It'd been a while since I'd been to the top of the mountain for sunrise and it was well worth the effort. The angle of the sun rising right now means that rays stream through several valleys stretching out to sea.
As we came down from the top we just wandered as it was still early and the lives of others were not yet underway in an obvious manner. I disturbed the contemplations of a hawk! Had I realised it was there sooner I'd have stopped and seen if I could capture an image. As it was, I did get a close up view as it suddenly took off out of the tree in which it had been roosting.
The effect of the sun rising this morning is my photo for today. The way the mist is highlighted by the rays and the overall contrast and colouring, make this scene particularly appealing to me.

Day 249 - 5th September, 2014
No chance of a walk this morning. An early morning telephone call meant I needed to be at home. I had been up early anyway and outside enjoying the approaching daylight.
I decided to get out my camera and take a photograph as daylight approached. The light is different at this time of day compared to later on as darkness approaches. I could see the lights on the coast, however they weren't as overpowering as they are at night. A lighthouse was also visible blinking out its signal warning of danger. I kept trying to capture an image just as the lighthouse blinked by using continuous shooting. When I checked to see if I had done so, I noticed a wierd shape in the sky; I had managed to capture one of the bats flitting about. This is the photo I have chosen for today. I love the shape caused by the movement and flight of the bat and as ever, it's not a bad view to boot.

Day 250 - 6th September, 2014
Dynamic - that's how I felt first thing this morning! I was up early, moving, drilling and attaching things to different places. Trouble is, previous mountings leave holes which need filling up and then painting over. I had no filler or paint so decided to go to the coast and rectify that situation. I wanted to post off a cable to Jack so stopped in the village first of all only to find out that they no longer opened on a Saturday! Thankfully the rest of my "things to do", went without a hitch and I even managed to buy some replacement tiles for the front door step - a job which has been on my list for a while and not reached the top until now.
I was looking out for possible photo opportunities and was thinking along the lines of finding something to illustrate the still sleeping town. Nell was urging me towards some grass and as we neared, I could see a number of huge, vivid and colourful flower heads which had fallen from a nearby tree. This colourful display on the green grass was complemented by a naturally coloured rock. I decided to see what image I could capture with all three elements and in the finish, ended up laying flat on the grass to get a different perspective, much to the amusement of an elderly lady walked her dog nearby!
I took three different photos using varying depth of field settings. The image I have chosen is one in which I focused on the centre flower head leaving the foreground and background slightly blurred.

Day 251 - 7th September, 2014
JayJay my cat decided that she was going to make a nuisance of herself early this morning. I was so glad she did because when I looked outside, I could see a huge moon just above the bay. There was also light cloud about which gave the moon an eerie effect. Together with the lights of the bay, it presented a glorious image and I couldn't resist getting out my camera and tripod to capture some reminders of this spectacle.
It was still dark just before 6am, however it was possible to see daylight on its way. Trying to set things up quickly before the light changed too much; after several trips back indoors for things I'd forgotten as well as stubbing the toes of one foot, I was ready!
Having taken a number of photos looking towards the coast, I swung round and took photos of the stars twinkling above me. Towards the mountain range there was light cloud lifting into the sky and it reminded me of fingers stretching out to grasp the stars before the night passed. It was truly a magical experience; I sat enjoying it all when I was gently reminded that I was up early for a reason! JayJay presumably hadn't caught anything to eat and was waiting for some food.
I saw to her, made myself a cuppa and went back outside to watch as the dark blue sky gave way to a lighter, paler version. Not a bad way to start the day at all!
As I have uploaded various photos of the bay recently, I decided to chose one of the finger clouds and stars for today. The thing which always strikes me about night photography is the difficulty of providing a scale and perspective for an image. The sky is so vast in its beauty. On this occasion I used the house and a palm as foreground; I think I'll try and find an area with something a bit more interesting when another opportunity occurs in the future.

Day 252 - 8th September, 2014
I wasn't particularly early to rise this morning, however when I did, I saw that the moon was huge, orange and bright as it sank over the bay. It was still dark at 7am and I thought I had time to get my camera and capture a few exposures. It was a full moon and certainly worth having a go at taking a photo. Turning on my camera the message came up to change the battery pack. I hurredly complied and managed to take a few photos before the same message came up again - I had forgotten to recharge my spare battery! Duh!
I had managed to capture a few images of the moon close up, however the photo which most appealed to me shows the size of the moon in comparison to its surrounds. This perspective helps to portray that "wow" factor I have felt when viewing this phenomena of late. It is my photo for today.

Day 253 - 9th September, 2014
The moon shone bright and the sea was almost luminous first thing this morning. I have really been enjoying the beauty of the night these past few weeks as the days begin to shorten. Cooler air at night has also meant the stars and lights are clearer.
Knowing that I was going to be limited in terms of subjects for photos because of work needing to be done, I was delighted when I looked outside and saw a fantastic vista first thing as reflected colours from the rising sun, turned the coastal town pink! The cloud cover above the town stretched inland and I also captured a panoramic image.
I've chosen one of the single captures for my photo of the day. The panorama is spectacular, however because detail is lost due to the smale scale perspective, both cloud cover and colours loose their impact. The close up illustrates this detail and presents a spectacular image.

Day 254 - 10th September, 2014
Apparently we may have some rain coming our way next week. So looking forward to a change in the weather not least because it means less hand watering! There will also be more opportunities to capture different images. I know I can just take a photo of the beautiful scenery here, however I always hope that each daily image has a bit of a story to go with it, whether it be through trying out a photographic technique or circumstances. As the heat and dryness of the summer has progressed and continued, fulfilling that objective has become increasingly hard.
Visiting the hen house I was checking on future work to be done and noticed a huge spider's web near to the window on which the sun was shining. Realising I might be able to make a photograph I made a mental note to go back with my camera. When I remembered though, the sun had moved and although I managed to capture another cobweb outside, it wasn't as spectacular as the original find.
I waited until the sun was going down and went and had another scout around. I wanted a web on which the suns rays were reflecting. I managed to find one tucked away in a corner and with rays just about still touching parts. The end result is my choice of photo for today. Capturing the image late in the day meant there was more colour in the web and more contrast too. I shall look closely at the photo opportunities in the building for a while before the great clean up starts! Confirmation if ever there was any needed, that there's always a photo to be had if you only look hard enough!

Day 255 - 11th September, 2014
I had notification of an International Space Station (ISS) pass at 7am and decided to have a go at capturing a trail. I was awake in good time and able to have camera and tripod set up and ready to go. The app on my mobile was giving me a visual track of the progress of the ISS. The moon was still fairly full and giving off a lot of light, however being able to predict fairly accurately the direction of the pass, I decided to position my camera to capture an image looking away from it, in fact, looking directly towards the constellation of Orion!
I took a few trial shots and made some adjustments as I waited. The sky was beginning to lighten as daylight approached, then I saw it approaching! It looked as if my camera set up was spot on. The ISS headed towards Orion and I pressed the shutter hoping that I had timed it so the pass intersected the constellation. It did, I had and there was my capture of the day.
I hope I will always enjoy the thrill of seeing this single bright light gliding slowly across the sky, unnoticed by most people. My photo displays the track of the ISS passing between the belt and sword of Orion. I am so chuffed to have captured this image which to me represents much more than a line in the sky!

Day 256 - 12th September, 2014
Although technically still dark when I set off for a walk, the moonlight was sufficient to light my way. I wanted to be on the other side of the mountain this morning, in time to enjoy the actual sunrise colours and not just the reflected tones.
Nell and I wandered in the half light, I kept her on the leader in case one of the numerous foxes I know are around decided to show itself. In the event, all was quiet.
It was wonderful to see the mountain range in silhouette and various lights, both single and clusters decorating the lower levels. As I made my way around the mountain and then upwards, I was treated to a magnificent display of colour. I stopped several times just to look and take some photos before getting to the top and watching light gradually dilute the vivid colours.
I was home by 8am and ready to start on some of the jobs I had lined up. Whilst taking a break outside in the early afternoon, I noticed a dragonfly whizzing over the pool and setting itself down once or twice. Not too hopeful, I went and fetched my camera and sat still. The dragonfly came back and danced around, too quickly for me to capture it in flight, however when it settled I was able to get in reasonably close and take several photos.
The photo I have chosen for today is one of the dragonfly. I love the way its shadow is a mirror image and also the clarity and detail which I've captured. It's actually the closest I can remember being to these delicate creatures and I hope it returns again before too long and I can have a go at capturing it in flight.

Day 257 - 13th September, 2014
A photo shoot today; it's been a while since a meet up specifically to take photos! It'll be off into the mountains to see what's about. Before then however, I had notification of an ISS pass around 7am and thought I'd go and simply watch it glide over. I couldn't resist the temptation to get my camera and tripod however, when I went outside and saw the stars twinkling away and the moon slightly less bright. I'm getting more confident about pointing my camera in the direction from which I can see on the app it is approaching. It's not exact although it is giving me more time to adjust if need be.
I decided to take several photos during the 4 mins the ISS was overhead in the hope that I could capture surrounding stars without trails. It seemed to work well, although I shall have another go and have my camera set for even more, shorter exposures to see if I can get the stars like pin points.
I wanted to explore an area which should prove photogenic this winter and was able to get some reasonable captures. One in particular pleased me as I was clear on the image I wanted. It meant negotiating some brambles down a steep bank though! I managed it without mishap and the resulting image is my choice of photo for today. I am chuffed to have seen the photo opportunity and to have captured the various colours on show.

Day 258 - 14th September, 2014
I think my body clock must be tuned into the ISS pass times at the moment. Waking just before 6am I was in perfect time to get a cup of tea, grab my camera and tripod and go outside ready for the pass at 6.07am!
This morning, because of the direction of the pass I was able to set up my camera lower down the hill and include some silhouettes of trees in the foreground of the image. I also took a series of shorter exposures to stack together to see how that worked. When the ISS pass happened though, if I hadn't know its trajectory I would've missed it as it was so faint. Very different from yesterday. An interesting exercise nonetheless.
I thought I might have had opportunity to capture other images during the day, however it didn't happen; sometimes life gets in the way! I have therefore chosen one of the images I captured from this morning when photographing the ISS. A small straight line three quarters of the way up on the right hand side is the ISS trail. The foreground of trees into this image gives perspective and contrast to the night sky.

Day 259 - 15th September, 2014
I was delighted when out walking this morning, to hear and see more birds than I have done for a while. We're on one of the bird migration routes and I guess this is the time of year when things start to happen. I gather I missed two flocks of 30-40 red kites circling overhead yesterday looking for thermal currents. I shall keep my eyes peeled today, however I had my very own red kite circling overhead as I walked with Nell early on. I had the distinct impression we were being sussed out for a possible food supply!
Pasareles are full of grapes drying at the moment. They are covered up overnight to prevent mildew from damp forming. First thing in the morning the covers are off and those raisins ready to be sold are collected and taken to the local co-op. I stopped to take some photos of one such crop. I tried to dry my own grapes one year, however after I saw all the ants which were busy working the crop I went off the idea! These particular raisins are popular because they're from the muscatel grape and therefore sweet. Their only drawback is they are not seedless.
The photo I have chosen for today is one of the pasarel with partly filled boxes of raisins. The hillsides at one time used to be filled with similar constructions containing the fruit which would, over several weeks, turn from green to this purple colour. It's a labour-intensive industry and it's possible that in a few years, even the few pasareles such as this one will have disappeared.

Day 260 - 16th September, 2014
A magnificent sunrise to start the day. Out towards the west, dark clouds had started to obtain a tinge of pink on their edges. Looking to the east I could see the sky slowly turning crimson. I took some photos from my vineyard looking first eastwards then to the west. The contrast was stunning. Dark and brooding with a tinge of colour in one direction, vivid, bright colours in the other. I wanted to capture an image of the coloured clouds over Maroma, the high mountain across the valley which encompassed both elements. It meant walking up the road in my night clothes; it was a race to see if I could make it up the hill before the workers I could hear on their way up the hill for work, did!
I made it and sat down below a concrete pad to take my photo, trying to look as if my pose and position were completely normal as they drove past. I captured the image I was after although not before realising, that in my haste to sit down I hadn't paid enough attention to my surroundings and had landed on a bed of dried thistles.
I read something about photo incurring costs; the better the photo the greater the cost! On that basis I should have a masterpiece! I have chosen it as my photo for today. I think it is spectacular, however it also bring on a giggle when I think of how I actually captured it!

Day 261 - 17th September, 2014
A night shoot with a difference last night - I was chucked out of my chosen location for car trail lights! Anticipating access to a bridge across the motorway I had some explaining to do to a security guard who summoned us towards me no uncertain terms. It sounded a bit lame even to me as I said I wanted to take photos in the dark of cars on the motorway! He indicated the way out of the complex I had entered and I duly complied! All was not lost though, I headed to a nearby cove. I was able to capture images of rocks on the sand and in the water, lit up from nearby lamps and with waves gently lapping.
This morning I was in a local coastal town for a hair cut. Nell and I had a walk around the place as we were in plenty of time and I came across a small shoe placed on top of a hedge. It looked for all the world as if it was intent on getting somewhere and of course, I took a photograph.
This afternoon we had some rain! Well, at least the patio tiles did get wet before quickly drying out again. I kept hanging on in the hope of being able to capture an image including rain and its effects. It was a long wait as I could see the rain clouds sweeping up adjacent valleys and missing me completely. My photo for today then will not include anything wet! It's the shoe on a hedge which caught my eye as I walked. I wondered how it had come to be placed there and whether it would ever get claimed. It also gave me the opportunity to practice depth of field.

Day 262 - 18th September, 2014
The cloud formations early on provided plenty of photo opportunities. I decided to climb directly up to the top of the mountain rather than wander along the winding tracks. As Nell and I climbed up a large dry stone wall, I suddenly heard scuffling nearby. Turning around I saw that we were right next to the resident wolf on the mountain. I was pleased that there was a chain link fence in between us because although I've been told that he won't hurt a fly, he's still a wolf; the one I heard howling the other morning.
Nell of course went to investigate and I was reassured to see that as soon as I pointed my camera in his direction, he ran back a short distance. We stayed a little while becoming acquainted - well you never know, if he ever gets loose he may remember us with affection! He was difficult to photograph though as he was full of energy, well I guess at less than a year old, he would be!
Then it was onwards and upwards to the top. As I had anticipated, the vista was awesome. I took some photos and then we made our way back home, stopping off to check on the hens and collect eggs. I looked upwards as I heard a plane making the turn to head into Malaga airport. I thought the clouds would make a nice backdrop so took a photo forgetting that I'd been messing around with HDR. The result was an exposure in which three images were captured of the plane as it travelled. I liked the effect and must remember it for future possibilities.
My photo for today is one of the wolf. I hope that if I come across him again in similar circumstances, I may be able to get in closer and bypass the chain link. For today though, it represents the circumstances in which I was able to capture the image. He was staring intently at Nell too so I was glad the chain link was there!

Day 263 - 19th September, 2014
Time out with friends, laughing, eating and chatting. Not a bad way to spend a day, that's for sure.
I took my car into the garage to have small job done first thing. It was annoying rather than cause for concern. A bush on the suspension arm had been soldered at some time on one side and on the other it was split. It meant that there was a slight "clunk" sometimes when changing gear or I put my foot down on the accelerator with a bit of force.
On the way back home I drove along the coast road; the sea was flat calm and there were several boats out fishing. The light was such that the boats and their wash, provided relief in an otherwise flat and bland landscape. The photo I have chosen for today is of one of fishing boats speeding along so fast it was difficult to stop somewhere sufficiently ahead to capture an image. I like the momentum that the wash of the boat portrays in an otherwise still and calm environment.

Day 264 - 20th September, 2014
A really productive day, lots done, places visited and photos taken.
I met Brian and Tipsy and we headed for the mountains and the area which suffered from a really bad fire a few months ago. Everywhere looks so bare now as the clearing operation is well underway. There are huge piles of felled, burnt trees. We had a walk to get higher and look across towards the mountain range extending down to the coast; it was so quiet with hardly any wildlife moving at all. Although the area is still black/brown, there were some contrasting colours visible. The sky in parts was deep blue, the clouds were pure white and there was greenery about.
Heading back down towards civilisation we stopped off for lunch in a nearby village. Then it was on to explore an area where there is a Roman bridge.
My last stop was to a waterfall I'd discovered when walking with a friend before the summer. I was surprised to see still a reasonable fall and this is the photo I've chosen for today. There was more colour here both in the vegetation and reflections in the water. I'm looking forward to revisiting when the river is flooding.
I also managed to find some feathered type grasses to dry and place at the side of the chimney. Yep, a very productive day!

Day 265 - 21st September, 2014
After today there will be less than 100 photos of the day to complete my challenge. With a more varied climate likely from now on, I think subject matter will be easier to come by. I still want to try and continue to learn with each image I capture however.
This morning it was still dark when I awoke and light from a lamp was throwing shadows alongside the grasses I'd collected yesterday, making an interesting image. I set up my camera and tripod and took some photos. I noticed the soft light in the kitchen and also had a go at capturing a still life scene of a few items which were caught in the light.
Rain was forecast for later in the day and everywhere was so still. It felt like the calm before the storm.
The photo I have chosen today is one of the shadows on a wall which caught my eye first thing. I have concentrated on the bold shadows which were thrown by the lamp as it was this element which first caught my eye. I also decide to have a black and white image because this further emphasises the shadow element.

Day 266 - 22nd September, 2014
With a long list of things to accomplish today I set off down to the coast with purpose! Before I left however, I noticed that the cloud formations, although not moving in the direction I have been waiting for, were in fact of the type which would provide an opportunity to take some time-lapse images.
I set up my camera and tripod and focused in on the cloud and their movement. Instead, I caught sight of movement of my neighbours above and started chatting. By the time we had finished an exchange of interesting information, the clouds had dispersed!
As I returned home, I marvelled at the formation of huge cumulus clouds above the mountains. They were pure white and therefore, presumably, not containing any water which would give us much awaited rainfall. Nonetheless they were impressive and I decided to have a go at capturing them in a way which might show off their texture.
Walking out with Nell to find the best vantage point, rumbles of thunder started. It was amazing to see the clouds change as I watched. The awesome power of nature at work. I took some close up images as well as wide angled. It is one of the inbetween images which I have chosen as my photo for today. I like the contrasts as well as the power of the cloud formations portrayed in this photo

Day 267 - 23rd September, 2014
After another spectacular sunset last night, I thought there may have been something interesting to photograph this morning. Well if there was, I didn't see it anyway as I didn't wake until after 8am - unheard of normally. Knowing that I shall be travelling in the early hours tomorrow and won't get much sleep may have subconsciously affected me!
Wandering outside I was thinking about what I'd like to photograph. I anticipate my images of the next week in the UK to have a definite feel of autumn. Something local was in my mind. I found a funnel spider's web which is an amazing construction; I saw two red kites dancing above me and then I looked out over the coast. The very cloud formation which I'd had in mind to create yesterday morning, was there in all its glory, created naturally! In addition, some rain clouds were thrown in too. It has to be my photo for today. The way the clouds seem to be within touching distance overhead and their spread heading towards me is awesome.

Day 268 - 24th September, 2014
Well, no sleep for 48 hours, however it doesn't seem to matter now friends and family are altogether again. The rain was pouring down when we landed at Stansted and gradually bit by bit it brightened up to produce a lovely evening.
Stopping off at various places gave me the opportunity to take a diverse number of photos. At the airport I thought I'd spotted the google car taking photos; it turned out to be a parking enforcement car - talk about a hammer to crack a nut!
Later on I was able to practice taking photos of fish in a tank. It was an interesting exercise although I gave up with the bright yellow variety.
I've chosen one of the fish for today's photo, partly because I was reasonably pleased with what I'd captured, however the main reason is that the long two days is catching up with me and I need to get something uploaded!

Day 269 - 25th September, 2014
It was a relaxing day as anticipated; that doesn't mean to say it was without event though!
It was a glorious start to the day and after chatting for a while it was time for a walk. It's such a lovely area, not much traffic, plenty of woods and fields in which to wander and a lot of wildlife. There was a squirrel in the tree in the garden this morning. I wasn't sure what I thought about photographing it as it was a grey one and by the time I'd decided to give a go for the experience, it had disappeared.
I'm beginning to get my bearings in the area and will get out some more in the early mornings and evenings to see what other wildlife I can see. We visited some pigs and watched them playing with an old tyre, stopped and said hello to a horse which promptly walked away with an air of disdain and watched numerous water birds enjoying the water in a nearby lake.
We thought about picking some blackberries, however realised that none of us had a bag. That problem was soon resolved when we arrived at a church to have a look around and found a plastic bag which had been left near the main door. Wandering back, we stopped and picked loads of blackberries as well as eating them.
My photo for today is one of a mushroom/toadstool which was spotted in a field. The only way I could get the type of shot I wanted was to lay down flat on the ground and point my camera upwards at an impossible angle to try and actually see what I was capturing. Oh how I miss my flip out LCD screen! Nonetheless, I was pleased with the capture and the angle I had to use.

Day 270 - 26th September, 2014
A visit to a dog breeder friend started the day in the best way possible. To be surrounded by Border Collies was a special treat. One particular girl was extremely attentive and I was told she was looking for a home. I was tempted although thankfully there was no way of getting her home!
Later on we had a walk around a local market town which had an Abbey. It was really strange to find out that I could take whatever photos I wanted and with flash if necessary. As we were wandering around, so the vicar caught up with us - souls that needed saving he maybe thought! We had a chat and as a result, the lights of the display above the altar were turned on for me to take photos. Later, when we were outside, I found a few perspectives which showed off the Abbey with the cloud formation making a spectacular background.
My choice of photo for today is one of the Border Collies. I like this photo because of the subject matter and also because of the huge Norfolk skies which I have been able to capture.

Day 271 - 27th September, 2014
A packed day. Starting off with a visit to a nearby fete, we were able to take some donations and also buy a few things to take with us to eat later in the day. Then it was on to hire a boat for a few hours on the river.
It was a glorious day for such and excursion. We each took a turn at the helm so that we were all able to enjoy our surroundings. The reflections were amazing. Plenty of wildlife to be seen, including kingfishers, too.
We stopped off at some riverside pubs to eat and meet up with friends. A thoroughly enjoyable and memorable day.
My photo for today was difficult to chose, however I have decided on one of the view of the river and tree lined banks. I love the way the virginia creeper gives a splash of colour and also reflects in the water. I also like the composition of this image and the big Norfolk skies.

Day 272 - 28th September, 2014
What a full day! Started off with breakfast in a nearby town. I couldn't face a full English like the others, however the croissants I had were home made and delicious. On the off chance that a friend would be in, we stopped off on our way back to Thuxton. I hadn't said I'd be in the UK so my arrival was totally unexpected. The warmth of my welcome couldn't be disguised however, as a loud happy shout rang out when I was recognised.
A couple of joyful hours were spent catching up with promises of a visit to Spain in the Spring.
Back on the road we headed for Norwich. The objective was to take afternoon tea, however the price of this little luxury put me off as did the service charge when the bill came. We declined to pay the extra charge which thankfully was not contested as it was in Scotland. The tea itself was made up of finger sandwiches and some cakes plus a pot of tea for £10! Definitely not my cup of tea! The company though was exceptional and a good time was had by all.
My photo for today is one taken in the centre of Norwich. It's a beautiful covered walkway and I am happy with the way I have been able to compose it and highlight its beauty. As it was Sunday, there weren't too many people to obscure the detail of the shopping area.

Day 273 - 29th September, 2014
A spooky and eerie start to the day and a similar end! I was up early and out wandering in nearby countryside as there was early morning mist. I first headed towards two fish ponds that I'd visited earlier. The mist wasn't over the water as I'd hoped though so after taking a few photographs I headed in another direction across some fields. Here I was able to capture some of the images I'd been after as the mist began to clear above, whilst leaving patches lower down.
A trip to catch up with family saw us once again down near to the river; this time alongside a swing bridge which came into operation frequently as trains and large boats each needed to use the facilities in different ways. Leaving the riverside behind when it started to spot with rain, we headed towards How Hill, a study centre for the Broads and with interesting features nearby. My main goal was to get near to some wind pumps located next to the river. We also took a turn around Toad Hole House which had been set up as it would've been used over 200 years ago.
The last event of the day was a ghost tour around the city of Norwich. There were 17 of us in total and although the actual spookiness was on a predictable level, it was truly memorable because of the vista of the city at night. I was able to meet with another friend who joined us on the tour and we all learnt quite a bit of history about our city.
The photo I have chosen for today is one of the cows feeding in the field. I really like the mood I've captured in this scene; there is colour in the foreground although the dreaminess created by the greyness of the mist is still present.

Day 274 - 30th September, 2014
The day started overcast and improved as it went on. We travelled to nearby lakes, formed when gravel pits became redundant. I was here this time last year and wanted to see if I could find some red toadstools (Amanita muscaria) again. We found one, in its second stage of growth so it didn't have the flatter red top, however it was recognisable and we were pleased to have found the only one around!
A walk through the gardens of Lynford Hall brought us to the Hall itself. We decided to indulge and ordered tea and scones to eat outside overlooking the well manicured garden. For the price charged we were really disappointed with the fayre and a complaint was made!
A walk across fields to see if we could spot some owls coming out to play finished the evening. Didn't see any owls, however we did spot a fox stealing across the open field with a huge meal in its mouth.
My photo for today is one of Lynford Hall. The reflections of clouds and the Hall itself in the water were glorious and the image portrays the formality of the place and its surroundings.
