Adventures of the two in 2015
June 19th -20th, 2015 - Stage 8, homeward bound
June 19th
Setting the satnav to take us back towards Spain, we were expecting to hit a motorway before too long and then head towards San Sebastian and southwards thereafter. That's not what happened though. We could see we were heading towards the Pyrenees and wondering just how we'd be passing through them to get to Spain. My money was on a tunnel.
We were taking in the mountain scenery, although I didn't feel it was worth stopping for photos. Everything was impressive, however I felt it would be difficult to capture anything spectacular. Then we rounded a bend and the most awesome view was infront of us. I swung quickly off the main road and lifted my camera. It was real chocolate box images stuff.
Carrying on further along the road, the view opened up even further. We were stopping frequently now; it seemed as if around every corner there was another beautiful scene unfolding.
We started to climb. My theory of a tunnel pass was looking unlikely. Lourdes yelled to stop saying something about a waterfall. I couldn't see to what she was referring until I was out of the car and across the road. It was a glorious waterfall, high and fast. We lingered for a while just enjoying the experience.
On and on we went, climbing, although not in a steep manner. We came across cows and sheep grazing peacefully alongside flowing water. There was a flock of sheep being guarded by a border collie dog and we stopped to watch as it began to work.We began to wonder if we'd ever be able to take ourselves out of the area. A route which would probably only take a couple of hours to navigate, was taking nearly double the time. We weren't in a hurry though. Our lodgings were booked for the night south of Madrid and it wouldn't matter if we arrived late.
Eventually we reached the summit of the mountain and crossed the border between France and Spain. Immediately the terrain changed. In France it had all been lush and green with plenty of water. In Spain the predominant colours were brown and yellow; everywhere was dry with very little running water.
Soon we were heading towards Madrid. Our hotel for the night was quickly located and we were pleased to see that there was a restaurant/bar on the ground floor. We weren't really in the mood to go exploring and instead had a bite to eat and a couple of beers as there was no more driving that day.

The last day of our adventure. We'd both thoroughly enjoyed our time travelling and the experiences we'd had. There was also for me, an element of excitement at getting back home. We stopped and had a meal before the parting of the ways, knowing that it wouldn't belong before we'd be able to relive it all again through the photos we'd all taken.
